Wedding guest etiquette for the digital age
Posting pics of the big day on Facebook without telling the bride is a modern day social faux pas
Weddingchannel.com has compiled a list of do’s and don’t for wedding guests who Tweet. The introduction of internet social networking sites has thrown up a whole host of potential pitfalls for wedding guests, so to avoid a digital faux pas this wedding season, here are a few hints.
According to the weddingchannel.com, a leading wedding and gift registry website, there are a number of unspoken rules wedding guests with a penchant for Facebook and Twitter need to abide by if they want to keep on the right side of the bride and groom.
At the top of the list of digital no no’s is posting photos of the big day on the internet without letting the newlyweds know first. In a poll conducted by weddingchannel.com 40% of the brides questioned said this was one of their biggest grievances.
Another common gripe is wedding guests giving minute-by-minute updates on Twitter or Facebook about the wedding day. Or even worse, announcing another couple’s engagement before the news is officially out, definitely a big no-no.
Sending your RSVP for a wedding via Twitter is also at the top of a list of pet-hates for brides and grooms to be. If they’ve put the effort in to post you a handwritten invitation, you should show the same courtesy back.
One of the biggest pitfalls to avoid is complaining about a wedding online; just don’t do it! You never know who may read your posts and you could end up offending a friend for life.
