Wedding elephant hired for Hindu ceremony goes on the rampage
An elephant hired for a Hindu wedding ran amuck in New Delhi for 6 hours
A male elephant hired for a lavish Hindu wedding in India caused £200,000 worth of damage after he went on the rampage, tearing through the streets, in pursuit of a female elephant who was in-heat.
Animals are especially important in the Hindu religion. The elephant in particular, is a symbol which is connected to the important deity known as Ganesha. This deity is symbolised with the head of an elephant and is known as the Lord of success. Elephants are popular with Hindu marriage ceremonies as it is believed to bring good fortune to the new union.
The elephant was hired for a high profile wedding ceremony between the children of two politicians in New Delhi. The animal is reported to have charged through a lawn full of wedding guests, turned over several cars, smashed through a shopping centre, mounted a truck, and crashed into a police vehicle during the 6-hour long ordeal. Two police officers narrowly avoided serious injury when the elephant attempted to overturn their car.
After running amuck in the city for over 6-hours, the elephant was finally brought under control with the use of a tranquiliser gun. Animal experts said the elephant was in “mast” also known as the rutting-stage, which happens once a year.

What in the heck are you people thinking? Number one taking a elephant under UN-natural conditions is a no no and a male elephant of all things they are the most dangerous especially during mating season.
I hope this elephant did not get punished for his natural behavior as all of you caused to be dangerous.
Why don’t you people leave Gods creatures alone in the wild like he put them?
As long as man intervenes with nature of any kind such as animals you all deserve what you get.
The old saying is “DO NOT MESS WITH MOTHER NATURE” That means Gods animals and he has asked in the bible to take care of them and this does not look like you are doing as he has asked.
Leave the wild in the wild as they will always be wild and cannot be trusted no matter what treatment you give them.
For once in your lives stop thinking of yourselves and your pleasures as you will have to face God one day and answer to him.
Surely this has happened before with so many hindu weddings?

Would have been far easier to hire a rolls royce phantom wedding car.
God did not create elephants to work at weddings or to be at the mercy of humans. They should be left alone and allowed to live their lives without human interference. I hope that poor elephant is not punished.

Not true really. In 30 years of my life, never have been to wedding where they had elephant. Its just too costly and difficult to manage, plus very difficult to find an elephant who could be used for wedding.
This is really case of show off, rich politicians used elephant because they had enough money to afford.
Okay, seriously, don’t comment on something you don’t know about. Most people are meat eaters and kill all kinds of animals and that is justified, but something that is a part of the religion for us, is against human nature. Seriously grow up and take a look at your own bloody hypocrisy. The animal was not hurt in anyway, and it was a very rare occurrence. Also not every wedding has elephants. Some people like to show off and they got well punished for it. However, don’t question our beliefs and religion unless you are ready to answer to the difficult ones in yours.
As for facing God one day and answering to him, think of that every time, you take a bite out of chicken or go fishing.
It was happened in Meerut near Delhi and the International Organisation for Animal Protection – OIPA in India moved complaint against both ; so called owner and crime promoter both member of Parliament………..later complaint lodged with the President of India office for further directions to the concerned authorities.
As far as having a memorable wedding, this sure beats a trip to Cancun, being married by Elvis in Las Vegas, or going to Niagara Falls and watching the water fall. This elephant might have been ruting, but he certainly was not in a rut. He was one frisky big fellow. How many boy friends run thru a shopping mall, and wreck a bunch of cars to get to the love of their lives. Get punished ?
They should give him that go and get it scent again, and use that to make a movie with Jackie Chan, or Angela Jolee – or let Bollywood make a great feature film.
