Hotel’s refusal to refund wedding reception deposit after death of the bride causes upset

As the couple hadn't take out wedding insurance the cost of the reception cannot be recouped after the death of the bride
A hotel in the North East of England has hit the headlines this week after it refused to refund a deposit for a wedding reception after the bride sadly passed away.
35-year-old Annette Bainbridge had planned to tie the knot with Paul Teece in November but after suffering a severe asthma attack, the bride-to-be died suddenly at the end of May. Annette and her fiancé had already paid the full £2,000 for their wedding on May 1st.
The hotel was contacted by the grieving family to inform them that the wedding would have to be cancelled following the untimely death of the bride. Despite the tragic circumstances, the hotel asked for a cancellation fee of £1,500 be paid which was stipulated in the contract.
The establishment has since waived the cancellation fee however the cost of the wedding has not been recouped, as the couple hadn’t taken out wedding insurance. The family and fiancé of the deceased bride say that although the hotel is legally obliged to keep the money, they question the hotel’s moral integrity given the sad circumstances which forced the cancellation of the wedding.
When asked for their take on the situation, the general manager at the hotel in question refused to comment, stating that the matter was a private one between them and the groom, Mr Teece.
Brides likely to pile on the pounds after slimming into a wedding dress

Half of brides questioned in a survey said they went on a crash diet before their wedding
A recent poll of 3,000 brides has revealed that 1 in 5 newlywed ladies will pile on the weight they lost in the run up to their wedding 6 months into married life.
Half of those questioned said they had gone on a crash diet in an attempt to lose weight quickly as the wedding day came closer. A high percentage of these brides said that they intended to lose 2st in preparation for their nuptials.
As an extra motivation to shed the pounds, some brides went as far as buying a dress a size too small so they would no choice but to drop a dress size before the big day.
However some lucky brides said the weight dropped off in the run up to the wedding with the stress of organising the occasion.
Once all the fun of the wedding was over, 15% of the brides quizzed admitted to letting go on honeymoon and indulging in fatty and sugary food which they had banned as part of their pre-wedding diet.
The average weight loss achieved by brides-to-be was estimated as 1st 2lbs.
Brides are under immense pressure to look their very best on their wedding day. Often family and friends, some of whom they haven’t seen for years, will be there on the big day so it’s vital they feel good on their special day. Plus there’s the added pressure of the all-important wedding photographs; no bride wants to look back on these and feel that she didn’t look her best.

Previously one of the only ways of developing, editing and producing a wedding seating plan has been to write names on pieces of paper and move these around. Sunshine wedding abroad wrecked by food poisoning

Yorkshire couple's Turkish wedding ruined after guests come down with food poisoning and bridesmaid is hospitalized
A couple from Doncaster, Yorkshire, had their wedding day ruined after their entire wedding party, including the best man, groom and bridesmaid, were struck down with food poisoning.
Kevin Sturman and Abbie Otter opted for a wedding in Turkey and invited 20 of their close family and friends along for the special occasion. But before the couple could exchange their vows, the whole group came down with a food poisoning bug, with several said to be suffering from gastro-enteritis.
The groom was bed bound for two days, the best man was on a drip for a week, one of the bridesmaids was taken to hospital, and the groom’s sister, who was pregnant, was rushed to a hospital 80 miles away where she had to stay for 2 days.
Despite the fact all the guests were extremely sick, the wedding ceremony went ahead, but it was far from the experience the bride and groom had wished for when they booked their dream wedding in Turkey.
The newlyweds had forked out a total of £4,000 for the wedding and a two-week honeymoon. Between all of the guests, they had spent an estimated total of £6,000 on the disaster holiday.
Now the wedding party are part of a group of 659 other tourists who are attempting to sue First Choice for a total of £6 million.
However the holiday provider is claiming that rigorous hygiene checks carried out at the Turkish hotel in question revealed a high standard of care.

The latest catering trends for your wedding
After picking the brains of those-in-the-know, we’ve compiled a list of the top catering trends sweeping weddings this year. Read on and be inspired by these inventive ideas, guaranteed to provide a talking point at your big day.
Grazing
Yes, grazing is the new buzz word in the catering world; it’s a buffet, but not as we know it. The idea is to create a more sociable dining experience so guests aren’t restricted to sitting on a table surrounded by a handful of people. Everyone is free to mingle whilst they munch creating a more relaxed ambiance. Food stations are set up around the room as opposed to one specific area forcing guests to explore the room and make new acquaintances along the way.
Outrageous cakes
It’s your big day, have your cake and eat it! If you have a colour theme extend that to your food too. Perhaps you can’t get enough of pink? Have a giant pink marshmallow wedding cake as the centre piece for your reception. Monochrome theme wedding? How about a chequered cake decorated with white and dark chocolate pearls? One bride even went as far as having a life size replica of herself for her wedding cake; it goes to show, there really are no boundaries.
Self-service cocktail bars
Present your guests with a range of liquors, fruit juices and mixers and let them loose with their imagination. It’s worth having a professional cocktail waiter on hand to assist your guests and offer them some tips. Cocktail waiters are generally more than happy to show off their skills adding a great spectacle to your reception.
Organic menus
Have a wedding breakfast with a conscience and use only fair trade, local, organic and seasonal produce to create your menu. Your insightful choice of ingredients won’t go unnoticed by your guests and many will appreciate the effort you’ve made. Clavelshay Barn in Taunton is a wedding venue set on a family run farm. They offer a menu using locally sourced produce, with their speciality being their organic beef reared on their farm.
Banquet style
Instead of segregating your guests off onto separate tables, arrange to have two or three long tables alongside each other and enjoy a medieval style wedding. For an added feature consider having your meat carved at the table for guests to watch whilst they wait to be served.
