Buying a wedding dress is likely to be the most significant and exciting purchase you’ll ever make. It’s a very personal choice and one which requires plenty of thought. With all this in mind, here’re some tips to help you make the right decision to ensure you shine on your big day.
First thing’s first, before you even open a bridal magazine, or step through a shop door, take a moment to sit down and consider what you expect from your wedding dress. Jot down a few phrases as these may come in very useful when you’re up to your eyeballs in white taffeta and lace.
Another important thing to remember is to plan ahead. It’s recommended you order your gown 6 months in advance to allow for any problems or alterations which may be needed. If you have less time, remember to budget for possible emergency seamstress services.
Work out your budget before you start browsing dresses. This way you eliminate the potential threat of falling in love with a dress way outside your price bracket. Be realistic and remember to add on the cost of accessories including lingerie, shoes, tiara, and jewellery so you have a realistic picture of how much your entire outfit will set you back.
If you have a tight budget, don’t despair. A truly fabulous dress can still be yours with little bit of inventive thinking. Ebay still remains a popular haunt for wedding dress hunters, especially those seeking vintage wedding gowns. Remember vintage dress sizes may differ drastically from modern sizes so make sure you get the measurements right before putting in your bid. Steer clear of stained or shop soiled dresses when buying second hand; you’ve no idea how long the mark has been there therefore it may be very difficult to shift.
Sample sales take place up and down the country and can save you a considerable amount. Find one in your local area by checking the listing on the internet or by making enquiries at your local bridal wear shop. Large department stores such as Harrods have huge reductions on bridal gowns but you may need to camp out in order to beat the crowds and bag the dress; do your home work before hand to maximise your chances.
