Liz Hurley and Shane Warne could be heading down the aisle as early as this winter after the former actress and model accepted the cricketer’s marriage proposal over dinner on Friday night.

The couple were in St Andrews where the ex-Australian cricketer was playing in the Alfred Dunhill pro-am Golf Championship when he popped the question. The swimwear designer was spotted the following day cheering on her new fiancé on the links wearing a huge sapphire and diamond rock on her wedding finger. The impressive ring is thought to have cost in the region of £50,000.

On Saturday, a spokesperson for Liz Hurley confirmed that the couple had got engaged the previous evening, although no further details such as a wedding date have been confirmed, however there’s speculation that the pair could marry as early as this winter in Warne’s native Australia.

If the nuptials go ahead, it will be the second marriage for both Liz and Shane as the ex model was married to businessman Arun Nayer for four years before splitting last June, around the same time she met Shane Warne. The sportsman was married to Simone for 10 years and had three children together before splitting in 2006.

The couple raised eyebrows when they first got together after meeting at Goodwood in July of last year, not confirming until December that they were an item.

Despite news of their engagement and speculation over a winter wedding, the bookies are offering odds of 3-1 that Liz Hurley and Shane Warne won’t make it down the aisle.

Alex Reid and Katie Price may have some very interesting wedding photography, as the cage fighter has revealed that he would like a Star Wars themed celebration.

The 34-year-old Celebrity Big Brother winner explained that he is a Star Wars "freak" and got the idea for the unusual ceremony when he walked past a fancy dress shop recently.

With their remarriage planned for this summer, it seems as though Katie may not be wearing a designer wedding dress if her husband-to-be gets his way.

"Katie and me could go as Princess Leia and Darth Vader – I'm up for that idea," Alex told the Daily Star.

This got me thinking about themed weddings and whether or not they are a good idea.

Of course, it all depends on the couple, but I think there is part of me that would much rather have an old fashioned ceremony with a gorgeous dress and all the trimmings.

Plus, I quite fancy getting my hair and make-up done and being pampered for a day!

While some people may like the idea of doing something a bit different when they get married, perhaps I'm just a bit more of a traditionalist.

What about you? Would you go for a quirky theme when you walk down the aisle?

New research has revealed a happy marriage can actually be good for your health. Results of a recent study have shown that men are less at risk of suffering a stroke, if they are happily married.

A study conducted by Uri Goldbout of Tel Aviv University looked at 10,000 Israeli men over several decades. Questionnaires completed by the men in the 1960’s were scrutinised. One of the questions they were asked was to rate the success of their marriage.

After taking into consideration socio-economical factors, blood pressure and smoking, which all contribute to the threat of a stroke, the scientists were shocked to discover a very definite link between happy marriages and a reduced chance of suffering a stroke.

The research revealed that single men, and those in unhappy marriages, were 64% more likely to suffer a fatal stroke than a man in a happy marriage. Dr Goldbout who lead the research said that he was even astonished by the results saying: “I had not expected that unsuccessful marriage would be of this statistical importance.”

No research has yet been conducted to discover if women benefit health-wise from being part of a happy marriage, however scientists say this is the next area they are hoping to investigate.

Despite the marked link between happy relationships and wellbeing, experts have stressed that a healthy lifestyle with a sensible diet and regular exercise is key to reducing the risk if stroke.
