Pat Higgins is planning her ninth trip down the aisle to current toy boy Mark Sanderson

A 56-year-old grandmother whose succession of failed marriages to younger men has earned her the nickname of Black Widow, has revealed her plans to walk down the aisle for the ninth time.

Pat Higgins from North Tyneside met supermarket worker Mark Sanderson, 32 years her junior, while on a night out in Newcastle. 10 months later, and the smitten 24-year-old went down on one knee, despite his other half’s previous track record for broken marriages.

However Mark’s family don’t share his enthusiasm for 8-times married Pat. Jennifer Sanderson, Mark’s mother, is 7 years younger than her prospective daughter-in-law isn’t happy about the match, describing Pat as “someone who eats younger men for breakfast.”

The grandmother’s first marriage took place in 1974, and her last trip down the aisle was in 2007. The marriages have lasted between 5-years and 5 days, however despite her failure to make any of her relationships work, Pat says “this time it has to last forever.”

The mother-of-5, who is currently studying for a degree in social politics and sociology with the Open University, has branded some of the nicknames attributed to her such as of Black Widow and Man Eater as “silly”.
