Runaway Chester bride wins dream wedding
The winning bride made it all the way from Chester to South London and back in 8 hours to win the dream wedding
Friday the 13th certainly lived up to expectations for three brides-to-be from Chester after they were set a challenge of a lifetime for the chance to win a dream wedding and luxury honeymoon.
Hundreds of hopeful brides applied to win the fabulous prize of an all expenses paid wedding at the beautiful McDonald Craxton Wood wedding venue and luxury honeymoon cruise, with the final three being chosen via a public vote on a local radio station.
Emma Buxton, Helen Smith and Laura Morris were the three lucky brides chosen to compete for the luxury wedding. On the morning of the challenge, the three competitors were taken to a mystery location in Chester, and told they had to get as far away from the city as possible, and back again, by 5pm that same day.
Wearing just their wedding dresses, and with no money or mobile phones to aid them, the three brides set off on their mission. The trio went to great lengths to make their getaway, with one attempting to jump onboard a Royal Mail van, and another trying to sweet talk her way into getting a free hire car.
In the end, Emma Burton emerged triumphant after two local businessmen took pity on her when they spotted her walking out of Chester train station in her wedding dress after failing to get a free ticket. They offered to stump up the money needed for a return train fare to London, winning Emma the amazing prize.
Bride-to-be Helen Smith managed to make it all the way to Scotland but was 10 minutes late arriving back which meant she was disqualified.
Laura Morris came in third place after only making it to Wigan and back in the allotted time frame.
Winning bride Emma arrived back from London with just 8 minutes to spare having travelled 218 miles to a South London tube stop and back again. The bride-to-be said she was “stunned” and “excited” to have won, and thanked the generous businessmen who bought her the all-important train ticket.
