Mass Valentine’s Day wedding on snowy mountaintop
60 couples took part in a mass Valentine’s Day wedding on a snow mountaintop in Colorado yesterday. The unique event took place in the Loveland Ski Area at the Ptarmijan Roost Cabin which is 12,500 feet above sea level.
The mass wedding ceremony which saw 60 couples tie the knot or renew their vows was overseen by a priest, with all the usual elements of any wedding day being included in the mountaintop ceremony such as wedding vows, rings and the first kiss to seal the deal. The mass ceremony, which has become something of a tradition in Loveland, took all of 30 minutes to complete.
However as soon as the important business of the ceremony was over, events took an unorthodox turn with the happy couple’s filing out under an arch of raised ski poles before skiing down the snow topped mountain as husband and wife for the very first time.
Many of the brides added veils to their ski outfits and attached a bridal bouquet to their ski poles, while some even attempted to wear a full wedding gown over their ski-suits, while a couple of game groom donned top hats and tails over their ski clothes.
This year’s marked the 21st annual Loveland Mountaintop Matrimony event which saw 60 couples ride up the mountain in the ski lift, and ski or snowboard back down newlyweds. The happy couples were all met with a party at the bottom of the slope to celebrate their happy occasion.
