Bollywood’s Saifeena tie the knot in Mumbai
Bollywood’s ‘first couple’ have finally tied the knot in a glittering celebration fit for royalty! After five years of courtship, Bollywood A-listers Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, popularly known as Saifeena, were married in a simple private wedding ceremony by a registrar on 16 October at their suburban Bandra residence in Mumbai. The intimate ceremony was followed by a glitzy bash at the high-end Taj Mahal hotel with several B-Town celebrities in attendance. Amongst those present were Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan accompanied by wife Gauri, actress Preity Zinta and top film maker Karan Johar.
Kareena wore her mother-in-law, Sharmila Tagore’s bridal outfit, a vintage garara that was exclusively restored for the occasion when the newlyweds exchanged vows and rings at the evening ceremony held at the Taj Mahal hotel. She later changed into a deep burgundy garara (traditional Indian dress) designed be her close friend and India’s top celebratory fashion designer Manish Malhotra.
Speaking to Indian newswire PTI, Mr Malhotra said: “I worked on the antique Pataudi garara for Kareena’s wedding… we did the final fittings and added a bit of touch of embroidery here and there. When Saif and Kareena exchanged vows… she wore Sharmilaji’s garara for some time.
“Kareena wore a burgundy colour embellished garara with maroon duppatta. I gave a very old world charm to all the gararas.”
The grand celebration follows days of celebration that started on 13 October and involved Indian wedding rituals like mehndi and sangeet. Kareena will now be known as Kareena Kapoor Khan and her new name will be featured for the first time in the credits for the upcoming Aamir Khan-starrer Talaash.
