Hotel’s refusal to refund wedding reception deposit after death of the bride causes upset

As the couple hadn't take out wedding insurance the cost of the reception cannot be recouped after the death of the bride

A hotel in the North East of England has hit the headlines this week after it refused to refund a deposit for a wedding reception after the bride sadly passed away.

35-year-old Annette Bainbridge had planned to tie the knot with Paul Teece in November but after suffering a severe asthma attack, the bride-to-be died suddenly at the end of May. Annette and her fiancé had already paid the full £2,000 for their wedding on May 1st.

The hotel was contacted by the grieving family to inform them that the wedding would have to be cancelled following the untimely death of the bride. Despite the tragic circumstances, the hotel asked for a cancellation fee of £1,500 be paid which was stipulated in the contract.

The establishment has since waived the cancellation fee however the cost of the wedding has not been recouped, as the couple hadn’t taken out wedding insurance. The family and fiancé of the deceased bride say that although the hotel is legally obliged to keep the money, they question the hotel’s moral integrity given the sad circumstances which forced the cancellation of the wedding.

When asked for their take on the situation, the general manager at the hotel in question refused to comment, stating that the matter was a private one between them and the groom, Mr Teece.

American beauty actress Mena Suvari wedding details revealed

Mena Suvari and Simone Sestito exchanged vows in a traditional ceremony held in a church inside Vatican City

Just as the first snaps of American Beauty actress Mena Suvari wearing her impressive wedding ring, designed by her new husband emerge, so do the all important details of their big day in Rome.

The 31-year-old actress married her Italian partner of three-years in what was described as a “romantic” and very “traditional” ceremony held in an 8th century church in Vatican City.

Rome was chosen as the setting for the nuptials as the groom, 25-year-old concert producer Simone Sestito, is Italian and his family live around the city.

Mena was described as looking “breathtaking” by one of the wedding guests as she walked down the aisle in an Alice & Oliver designed gown and a pair of Nova diamond earrings. Music for the religious ceremony was provided by a string quartet, organist, and also a soprano singer.

The wedding reception was held at the stunning castle in nearby Bracciano, Castello Odescalchi, the same venue where Hollywood couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes tied the knot in 2006.

The newlyweds took to the floor for their first dance accompanied by music from the Gypsy Kings and the night was rounded off with a magnificent firework display.

The couple got engaged in 2008 after meeting the previous year at the Toronto Film Festival.

Registrar bans giant Simpson figures from civil partnership ceremony

The Simpsons aren't welcome at Cardiff registry office

A couple from Merthyr Tydfil were forced to tone down their Simpson themed wedding after the registrar conducting their civil partnership ceremony in Cardiff refused to let them invite along their giant figures of the cartoon family, The Simpsons, to their nuptials.

Not ones to be defeated, Glyn Stott and Roy Culliford persevered with their dream for a Simpson themed wedding and instead walked down the aisle to the show’s theme tune, had a wedding cake decorated with the Simpsons characters, and even shunned a romantic honeymoon in the sun to stay at home and watch back-to-back episode of the hit cartoon.

The couple’s request to invite the giant cartoon figures which measure up to 7foot in height, was rejected by the registry office as it was felt their presence at the ceremony wouldn’t have been in keeping with the “solemn and dignified” nature of the occasion.

One of the grooms, Mr Stott, said it was a “real shame” he’d been unable to have his wish as he had wanted Homer and Marge by his side while making his vows. The shop manager is a huge Simpsons fan and has even dedicated a room in his house to the American cartoon where he keeps the £100,000 worth of memorabilia he has collected over the years.

£42k compensation payout after ceiling falls in on wedding reception

Irish wedding ruined after ceiling caves in on guests at the reception

A bride from Ireland has received a £42,000 compensation payout after the ceiling at the hotel where she held her wedding reception caved in on the party.

The ceiling fell in just as the bride and groom were preparing to take to the floor for their first dance at the Setanta House Hotel in County Kildare, Ireland.

The bride, Joanne Noone, attempted to flee from the room along with the groom and their other guests when they heard loud cracks as the ceiling began to give way. However Ms Noone became trapped under the falling debris and was pinned to the floor by a heavy timber pillar.

After attending hospital the doctors found Ms Noone had sustained soft tissue damage and was complaining of pain in her back, legs and neck. The court also heard that the bride had suffered mild post-traumatic stress after the wedding reception ordeal.

The bride, groom, best man and a number of other wedding guests have filed personal injury claims against the hotel which are due to be heard in front of the court. No one sustained serious injury as a result of the ceiling collapse.

The incident had repercussions for the newlyweds who cancelled their honeymoon to Italy due to the disastrous end to their wedding day.

Footage of the ceiling collapse was viewed in court after which the judge described the incident as “a pretty catastrophic event.” The judge added that is was a blessing no one was seriously hurt, and said he hoped Ms Noone’s trauma would ease with time.

This Morning’s Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford marry in country house ceremony

160 guests joined Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford to celebrate their wedding on Saturday

This Morning presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford were married on Saturday in a romantic country house ceremony in Hampshire.

The pair got engaged last year on St Patrick’s Day after the Northern Irish host popped the question via text-message.

However Eamonn described how many of the wedding guests were confused when they received their wedding invitations as they assumed the couple, who have been together for 13 years and have an 8-year-old son, were already married.

The wedding was held at Elvetham Hotel, in Hook, which enjoys a picturesque country setting with immaculate gardens and acres of lush parkland. The happy couple were joined by 160 guests for the nuptials, including a number of famous faces such as Jeremy Kyle, Sue Johnston, Gloria Hunniford, and Barry McGuigan.

In his speech Eamonn paid tribute to his “beautiful bride” who looked elegant in an ivory wedding gown by Italian designer Angelina Colarusso. The dress featured a wide scoop neckline which skimmed the shoulders and was tight fitting except for a flared train at the bottom of the gown.

The wedding had been kept tightly under wraps so the groom relayed the happy news to fans via his Twitter page. The newlyweds have jetted off for a sunshine break along with their 8-year-old son Jack.

The couple have signed an exclusive deal with Hello Magazine for the rights to the official wedding photographs.

Wedding Ferrari smashed up by newlyweds en route to their reception

Bride and groom crash hired Ferrari into a set of traffic lights on their way to the wedding reception

A pair of newlyweds are starting married life with a hefty bill, not a result of copious amounts of champagne consumed at the wedding, but after crashing the red Ferrari sports car they had hired to drive to their wedding reception.

The bride and groom had hoped to make a glamorous arrival behind the wheel of the £130,000 luxury super car when they pulled at their reception in Treviso, Northern Italy. However that dream was shattered when just a few yards into the journey from the marriage ceremony to the party, the groom careered off the road, smashing through a set of traffic lights.

Police say neither the bride nor the groom had been drinking. With a car as powerful as the Ferrari, which is capable of reaching speeds of 180mph and goes from 0-60 in 6 seconds, the smallest of driving errors can prove disastrous.

It’s been suggested that the couple would have needed to have signed an insurance cheque for approximately £20,000 before being allowed to hire the Ferrari. Insurance experts say that if it is possible to repair the damage caused by the crash, although it could be deemed a write off, it will cost in the region of £60,000. It’s almost certain the newlyweds will lose all of the deposit they handed over for the hire of their luxury wedding car.

Bubble-wrap wedding dress for eco bride

Newlywed Rachel says she'd recommend the bubble-wrap wedding dress to any bride-to-be

Eco conscious bride Rachel Robinson thought a traditional white wedding gown was a waste of money, so instead decided to take a radical approach to her dress for the big day. Forget silk, chiffon and taffeta, this bride opted for bubble wrap as her material of choice for her gown, more commonly used for packing parcels rather than walking down the aisle in.

The primary school teacher enlisted the help of her pupils and their parents to make the special dress which was originally used as part of a school fashion show under the theme of sustainable style.

The alternative dress was made by sewing 13 feet of bubble wrap onto a fabric base. A 3 foot train was created with overlapping layers of Haribo sweet packaging, and also white packing materials.

The sounds of the bridal march were interrupted by the pops from the bubble wrap as the bride walked down the aisle, although she explained that she was grateful for the pop-able material when she reached the alter as she had something to grab hold of to take the edge off her nerves.

The newlywed says she would recommend the bubble-wrap dress to any bride-to-be saying that as an individual who is passionate about the environment and wildlife, the eco-dress was the right choice of bridal wear for her.

Katy Perry talks wedding plans

Katy Perry and Russell Brand are planning to small wedding with a big reception

The I Kissed a Girl singer has revealed some tantalising details of her forthcoming nuptials to British comedian Russell Brand in a recent magazine interview.

The US pop star says they plan to have a small, intimate wedding ceremony with only their closest of friends and family in attendance. However all of their showbiz pals needn’t despair as the newlyweds intend to throw a “big fat reception” so all of their friends can celebrate with them.

Recent leaked rumours suggested that the singer and the comedian are planning to hold their wedding in India, the country where they got engaged over the New Year period. The couple announced their engagement after a whirlwind romance of just 3 months.

Talking about the all-important wedding gown, Katy says she has been in talks with the fashion designer John Galliano. The singer is opting for a Galliano design for sentimental reasons as it was at the designer’s Paris show last year that Katy and Russell first stepped out publically as a couple.

Fellow pop singer Rihanna revealed earlier this year that she has been charged with organising Katy’s hen do. Although no details on where the party will take place have been revealed, with the Rude Boy singer named as chief organiser, you can bet it will be a hen do to end all hen dos.
