Wedding sponsored by Bingo Club halted by the vicar

Couple forced to reject £5,000 sponsorship money from a bingo club for their wedding after the vicar objected

A couple who won £5,000 towards the cost of their wedding in exchange for displaying an online Bingo Club logo at their nuptials have had to cancel their plans after the vicar marrying them refused to let the sponsored wedding go ahead.

The couple from Newcastle-upon-Lyne had planned to tie the knot in Ballater in Scotland where the bride has family connections. However the vicar who was due to perform the wedding ceremony, Rev Tony Watts, is refusing to allow the bingo company to display logos in his church or take photographs for advertising as he believes it will promote gambling.

28-year-old bride-to-be Suzanne Latta and her fiancé Matt Brown, 37, beat off competition from hundreds of other couples to clinch the £5,000 prize. The national competition attracted widespread attention and is reported to be the first occasion in the UK where a company had officially attempted to sponsor a wedding in exchange for advertising.

In exchange for the £5,000 the competition winners were required to display the bingo company’s logo on the bride’s dress, suits, invitations, shoes, menus and even the place settings at the reception.

Ms Latta described feeling delighted after she and her husband-to-be were named as the winners of the Bingo Bride competition. However following the decision from their vicar to ban the onlinebingoclub.co.uk logo from his church, the couple will now have to go ahead with their marriage next month, with £5,000 less in their wedding budget.

Emily Blunt and John Krasinski get hitched at Lake Como

Lake Como was the destination for Emily Blunt and John Krasinski's Italian wedding on Saturday

British actress Emily Blunt and star of the US version of The Office, John Krasinski, exchanged vows on Saturday in a private open air ceremony held at Lake Como in Italy.

Rumour has it the couple spent the week leading up to the big day holed up in George Clooney’s Italian mansion. The groom and Hollywood heartthrob Clooney are said to be friends after working alongside each other on the movie Leatherhead.

Wedding guests, including George Clooney and girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis, were photographed enjoying boat trip up Lake Como before the official ceremony took place.

Sources claim the Young Victoria actress wore a cream Marchesa gown with chiffon, embroidery and a sweetheart neckline for her wedding to Krasinski. The newlyweds were snapped leaving LA airport yesterday after returning home from their secret wedding with the 27-year-old actress sporting an impressive platinum and 3-carat diamond wedding ring.

The pair started dating in 2008 and became engaged last August after the American actor went down on one knee.

Although the couple kept the exact date and location of their wedding tightly under wraps, a US gossip magazine reported that the UK born actress had been spotted dancing the night away in an LA bar surrounded by a gang of girlfriends suggesting she was celebrating her hen do ahead of her impending nuptials.

Brides and grooms planning beach weddings in Florida cancel due to US oil spill

Couples call off beach weddings on Gulf Coast as a result of the US oil spill

Thousands of brides and grooms-to-be planning a beach wedding in Florida have been forced to cancel their arrangements due to the oil spill which is affecting much of the Gulf coastline.

The Panhandle area of Florida has been a popular choice for beach weddings in the States for many years. In fact, this part of the coastline has hosted so many beach nuptials that it’s been dubbed “the Las Vegas of beach weddings.”

However the US oil spill is having a detrimental effect on the wedding business on the Gulf Coast this year with some wedding industry suppliers reporting a 50% drop in the number of bookings for the peak wedding season.

Weddings are an important part of the local economy as they bring visitors and business to the Florida area. But with many brides and grooms fearing their dream beach wedding will be ruined by the oil which threatens to fall on the Florida beaches, many are calling off their seaside weddings.

Even when couples don’t cancel their Florida beach weddings, the planners are left with a headache. One wedding planner told recently of a bride who refused to give her wedding the green light until 48 hours before the big day so as to ensure oil from the spill had not been swept onto the beach by the sea.

The last-minute go ahead for these weddings is high risk as the planners have very little time to prepare the area ahead of the ceremony. For this reason, added luxuries like an arch of flowers looking over the ocean have to be scrapped due to time restrictions.

All stops are pulled out to ensure those who do proceed with their wedding on the Gulf Coast have a venue free of oil and tar balls as teams of workers are drafted in to clean the beach of any debris ahead of a ceremony.

Sweden’s Crown Princess marries her former personal trainer

Sweden's Crown Princess was married in a lavish ceremony in Stockholm on Saturday

The Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden married her former personal trainer on Saturday in a traditional ceremony held in Stockholm’s cathedral.

The Princess, who is next in line to the Swedish throne, met Daniel Westling 8-years ago when he became her fitness instructor. Their relationship was not well received initially due to Daniel’s un-royal status.

However some half a million people lined the streets of Stockholm on Saturday to catch a glimpse of the newlyweds as the royal cortege passed by. The Crown Princess addressed the crowds from the castle after the ceremony saying: “”I like to thank you, the Swedish People for having given me my prince.”

Some 1,000 guests were invited to the wedding and the lavish banquet that followed. Representing the British royal family was Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, and his wife Sophie, the Countess.

Princess Victoria’s sister, Princess Madeleine of Sweden wore a dazzling blue dress for the ceremony. It was one of her first public appearances since calling off her engagement with fiancé Jonas Bergstrom after it emerged he had been unfaithful.

The bride wore a dress designed by Par Engsheden. The simple ivory gown had a 5 meter train and featured an elegant shoulder skimming neckline.

The marriage took place in the same venue and on the same day as the Princess’s parents wedding who were in turn, celebrating their 34th wedding anniversary on Saturday.

Sham wedding rumbled by immigration police

The 19-year-old Polish bride was lead away by a plain clothes officer

A sham wedding was stopped in its tracks after immigration police swooped on the registry office in Oxfordshire on Tuesday after a tip-off from the registrar.

The bride, still wearing her wedding gown and veil, and the groom were taken away in handcuffs by the police. Two witnesses, also present at the wedding-that-never-was, were also arrested on suspicion of assisting illegal immigration.

The 19-year-old Polish bride was due to marry the 30-year-old Indian groom until the registrar blew the whistle after having doubts about the couple’s wish to wed.

On the wedding day, the couple were taken into a side room prior to the ceremony. This allowed officers time to get into position before descending on the side room, arresting the waiting bride and groom.

Sham weddings are on the rise in the UK. 529 bogus weddings were reported last year, which is a 54% rise on the previous year. Due to the dramatic jump in the number of reported cases of marriages for passports, the police have launched a crackdown and have been enlisting the help of registrars in their quest to stamp out the practice.

Registrars often flag up cases of potential bogus marriages. Before a couple can tie the knot, they need to have an interview with the registrar in order to give notice of the marriage. If the registrar feels there’s something disingenuous about the couple’s wish to marry, he or she is obliged to alert the authorities.

The groom has been charged with two counts of perjury and has been remanded in custody as police fear he could flee if granted bail. The bride has been released after receiving a police caution for perjury.

Bond actress Gemma Arterton says “I do” during Spanish hilltop ceremony

Actress Gemma Arterton married Stefano Catelli over the weekend

Bond actress Gemma Arterton has tied the knot with fiancé Stefano Catelli during an intimate ceremony held on a hilltop above a beautiful Spanish village.

The bride looked radiant and a little shy as she made her entrance at the romantic service wearing a cream coloured strapless gown, with a simple veil pinned to the back of her head, and carrying a bouquet of white roses.

The couple got engaged 12 months ago after Italian born Stefano, who works as a sales manager for a British Fashion company, went down on one knee during the Download Festival last year.

The 24-year-old rising star says it was love at first sight when she met her now husband, 37-year-old Stefano. She describes going home the night after they first met and “writing in my diary that I’d met the man I was going to marry.”

The actress from Kent, who has most recently appeared in the blockbuster movie The Prince of Persia opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, is due to take time out of her hectic film career to enjoy the first few months of married life with her new husband.

The newlyweds were driven through the village of Zuheros in Andalucia in a vintage wedding car decorated in white ribbons and flowers after the outdoor marriage ceremony. Villagers came out into the streets to cheer as the bride and groom passed by in their chauffeur driven car.

David Walliams names the date for wedding to supermodel fiancée

Lara Stone and David Walliams will tie the knot at Claridges later this month

Little Britain star David Walliams has named the date he will marry his supermodel fiancée Lara Stone.

The nuptials are due to take place in less than two weeks time on May 15th at the swanky Claridges Hotel in London.

The star studded wedding guests list is expected to include the crème de la crème of the celebrity world with names such as Robbie Williams, James Corden, and Alan Carr said to be amongst the 200 invitees. Close friends of David’s, Natalie Imbruglia and Geri Haliwell are also due to attend. A number of high profile stars from the world of fashion are also expected to watch the pair exchange vows during the lavish London wedding.

The couple have wasted no time in getting their nuptials arranged. David and Lara only got engaged in January after the comedian obtained the Dutch model’s parent’s blessing and went down on one knee while they were holidaying in LA.

We revealed back in March that the 26-year-old model has already chosen Riccardo Tisci to design her wedding gown for her marriage to 38-year-old Walliams. The leading fashion designer helped launch Stone’s career by giving her a major role in one of his catwalk shows.

The loved-up pair have enjoyed something of a whirlwind romance as they only started dating at the end of last year.

Bride and groom run the Edinburgh marathon before getting hitched

Super fit couple tied the knot at Edinburgh Castle after completing the Bupa Great Edinburgh Run

A bride and groom ran the Bupa Great Edinburgh 10km run this weekend accompanied by 20 wedding guests before getting hitched.

Bride Anna Henly decided to run the race to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support Trust after her brother-in-law sadly passed away after a battle with cancer last year. A representative from the charity, Elspeth Atkinson, said: “We are very grateful. Having a wedding to get to is a great incentive to get to the finishing line.”

Although many of her friends told her she was mad to run the marathon two hours before tying the knot, many of them joined her along with her groom Robin McBride.

A number of the wedding guests carried bouquets during the 10km run which had the permission to pass through Holyrood Palace’s forecourt for the first time in the marathon’s history. The bride, who ran complete with a veil, was carried over the finishing line by her chivalrous groom.

Two hours later and the couple exchange their vows surrounded by some of their fellow runner, at Edinburgh Castle.

10,000 people took part in this year’s Bupa Great Edinburgh Run. The newlyweds regularly participate in 10km races and take part in the Edinburgh Run every year.

Chelsea Clinton tells Dad Bill to lose the weight ahead of her summer wedding

Chelsea has advised her dad Bill to slim down for her summer wedding

Chelsea Clinton has order her father, former president of the United States Bill Clinton, to drop the extra pounds ahead of her wedding this summer to Marc Mezvinsky.

Bill said recently that his daughter had asked him to lose about 15lbs so he could look good for the only important job he has to do on the big day; walk her down the aisle.

30-year-old Chelsea is due to marry her boyfriend of 5 years, Marc, in a ceremony this July at Martha’s Vineyard, an island off Massachusetts. There had been rumours earlier that Chelsea, who lives in New York, would marry at her old home, The White House. Obama had extended the offer but it was kindly declined by the Clintons.

It seems Bill is a big fan of Chelsea’s fiancé as he said in a recent TV interview, “I like and admire my future son-in-law, so I’m very happy.” The pair announced their engagement over thanksgiving last year.

The bride-to-be recently broke her right heel and has been seen hobbling about on crutches at public engagements, however sources say the medical boot will be off by the time the wedding arrives and she’ll be able to walk down the aisle next to a slimmed down Bill.
