Merseyside man has wedding blessing via webcam

With the bride in the US and the groom in the UK the wedding blessing had to be performed via webcam

A man from Formby in Merseyside was forced to have his wedding blessing performed over the internet after issues arose concerning his new American wife’s visa.

36-year-old Ian Wylie married US national Melissa Hughes in a ceremony in California at the end of June. The couple had planned to have a wedding blessing in the UK for all of Ian’s family who weren’t able to make it to the nuptials in America.

However the newlyweds’ plans were thrown into disarray after Melissa’s visa failed to show up in time for her to make it to the UK for the blessing.

30-year-old Melissa submitted her paperwork at the beginning of June, and was told the process would take up to 10 days. However by the end of the month, she was yet to receive her visa and made numerous phone calls in a desperate attempt to get her visa delivered so as to not miss out on her big occasion.

The bride’s mother and her sister were part of the 80-string party who attended the wedding blessing celebration at a hotel in Southport however the bride herself, was notably absent.

Determined to not let it ruin the occasion, the groom set up a web cam link with his new wife in America and the couple received their wedding blessing via the internet, as their family and friends looked on.

The groom’s mother described the ceremony as the “most emotional thing I have ever been to.” Adding that proud groom Ian was carrying his laptop around the guests at the reception introducing his new wife to his family and friends through the internet link.

Are brides choosing plump bridesmaids to a make themselves feel good?

study reveals brides-to-be are picking overweight bridesmaids to make themselves feel better

According to a recent survey from Slim.Fast, brides are doing just that with one in three admitting to recruiting a large bridesmaid in order to make themselves look and feel good on their big day.

With so much pressure on brides to look perfect on their wedding day, many are turning to drastic measures, such as asking overweight friends to play the role of bridesmaid, so as to ensure they look slimmer in comparison in the all-important wedding snaps.

It’s not just brides who are feeling the pressure according to the study, 20% of female wedding guests embarked on a diet before heading to a wedding celebration. However slimmer wedding guests were also a worry for brides-to-be with 40% saying they felt insecure standing next to skinny guests at their nuptials.

Popular strategies employed by wedding guests to combat these feelings of anxiety include buying a new outfit to boost confidence, but a further 40% said new shoes were the best pick-me-up for pre-wedding angst.

Half of the brides questioned as part of the Slim.Fast survey said they planned to lose weight before their big day.

The practice of choosing larger bridesmaids to boost the self esteem of brides-to-be was described by one of the nutritionists at Slim.Fast as a “worrying trend” as the statistics seem to suggest this is a growing problem amongst brides.

Rules relaxed on church weddings

Couples will be free to marry in a church where they have little connection

The General Synod at the Church’s parliament has voted to relax the current rule which prevents couples from marrying in a church where they don’t have a strong connection to the parish.

It is hoped the move will enable the church to claw back some of the wedding business which is currently being dominated by stately homes and hotels offering civil ceremony services.

Although the regulations will be significantly relaxed, engaged couples will still have to prove a “qualifying connection” with their chosen church in order to be permitted to marry there.

Church officials have admitted that the old rules were difficult to justify and excluded people unnecessarily. Now brides and grooms-to-be will have greater freedom to choose a church which best suits their needs.

It’s anticipated that the news will create a surge in wedding bookings at churches which may have been used for a celebrity wedding, or which have been used as locations for films or TV shows.

Some clergy with especially beautiful churches objected to the slackening of the marriage laws as they feared they would be unable to cope with the demand from couples wanting to tie the knot in their attractive buildings.

The number of church weddings has declined by 40% in the last 10 years while civil ceremony services held at specially licensed premises has soared. It is hoped this change in the rules may go some way to helping to redress the balance.

Bride makes it down the aisle despite being in labour

A bride from Tamworth went into labour on her wedding day

A very determined young bride form Tamworth made it all the way down the aisle despite being in labour.

21-year-old Stevie Hales was advised by medical staff to go into hospital at 4am on the morning of her wedding day. However, desperate to achieve her dream of a white wedding, the brave bride hung on until 2pm that in order to walk down the aisle and marry her partner, Damion Cobden.

All of the 60 wedding guests who’d assembled to watch the couple make their vows at a local hotel in Tamworth knew what was going on, said the bride, and everyone was said to be “panicky” as the ceremony unfolded. However even the blushing bride said she felt unsure of her decision to persevere with the nuptials as she explained: “As I walked down the aisle I thought the baby was going to come out there and then.”

After struggling through the official photographs, hearing the speeches, and eating two out of the three courses at the wedding reception, the newlyweds had to make a swift exit.

The new Mrs Cobden arrived at the hospital at 5pm on her wedding day, although she could have enjoyed the whole of her special occasion as the baby didn’t arrive until 6:30pm the following night.

The groom, and now proud father Damion, said they didn’t mind missing out on their first dance and the cutting of their cake as their new baby boy Finley more than made up for it.

Megan Fox marries in Hawaiian beach ceremony

Hollywood beauty Megan Fox married in secret beach ceremony last month

Hollywood actress Megan Fox has tied the knot with fellow actor, Brian Austin Green, in a romantic beach ceremony in Hawaii.

The couple, who’ve been dating on and off for the last 6 years, married at sunset on a deserted beach in a ceremony performed by a Hawaiian priest. The bride and groom stood side by side, along with Brian’s 8-year-old son Kassisus, as they exchanged their vows.

The wedding took place on June 24th however the newlyweds have only just confirmed the news and released a handful of official photographs. There was widespread speculation weeks earlier that the pair had married while on holiday as they were snapped wearing wedding bands.

The low-key ceremony at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai was a far cry from the typical Hollywood style wedding. However the bride did pull out all of the stops to look sensational on her special day.

The 24-year-old walked barefoot across the sand wearing a strapless Armani Prive gown with a sweetheart neckline and a billowing 16ft train which flowed out behind her. The bride carried a bouquet of big white blossoms.

The male members of the wedding party went for the casual look with white linen outfits and bare feet.

After meeting on the set of Hope and Faith back in 2004, when Fox was aged just 18 and Green 30, the pair started dating and have been together ever since aside from a brief separation in 2009.

According to a report in British celebrity magazine, Nicole and Lewis will announce their engagement at the end of November once the Formula1 racing season is over.

Earlier this year we reported on how Nicole Scherzinger had told a shop assistant in a Los Angeles boutique that she was shopping for a wedding dress, adding further fuel to the wedding rumours.

A source close to the Pussycat Doll singer says the racing driver has proposed numerous times, however the 32-year-old singer finally accepted after the huge amount of support Lewis gave her during her time on the US dance competition, Dancing With the Stars, which she went on to win.

Plans are now said to be underway for a romantic beach wedding in which the two will tie the knot. The ceremony itself maybe an intimate affair, however sources say the newlyweds will then throw a lavish party at one of their favourite haunts, the Dorchester Hotel in London, where they plan to hold a big wedding reception to celebrate their nuptials with all of their celebrity friends.

Wedding guests cut spending on gifts

Wedding gifts have taken a hit with the average cost down 34% compared with 2 years ago

A recent study has revealed that wedding guests have cut the amount they spend on gifts for the bride and groom by 34% in the last two years.

The hefty reduction in the cash being splashed on wedding gifts is almost certainly in direct response to the economic downturn, although a number of other factors are said to contribute to the slashing on spending by wedding guests.

We reported earlier in the year that the cost on average for attending a wedding in 2010 has risen by £10 in the last 12 months, and now stands at £290. The biggest contributors to the rising cost include transport to the wedding venue, overnight accommodation, and also a new outfit for the nuptials.

Another reason why people are spending less on gifts is that close friends to either the bride or groom are usually expected to attend the hen or stag do as well. These pre-wedding celebrations can be expensive, and therefore guests may be feeling the need to cut back on gifts to keep the cost down.

According to the survey, which was conducted by moneysupermraket.com, the average spend on a wedding gift was £28.26, which is a drop of £14.65 compared to two years ago when the average spent was £42.91.

The study, which polled 3,000 for the results, also revealed that wedding guests in Scotland were the most generous, spending on average £40 each on gifts, followed closely behind by Londoners who spend £30. Wedding guest in Yorkshire spent the least, with the average cost of a gift here coming in at £23.15.

The over 55’s are more likely to spend over £40 on a gift for the bride and groom, whereas those aged 18-24 spent the least at £24 each.

Brides likely to pile on the pounds after slimming into a wedding dress

Half of brides questioned in a survey said they went on a crash diet before their wedding

A recent poll of 3,000 brides has revealed that 1 in 5 newlywed ladies will pile on the weight they lost in the run up to their wedding 6 months into married life.

Half of those questioned said they had gone on a crash diet in an attempt to lose weight quickly as the wedding day came closer. A high percentage of these brides said that they intended to lose 2st in preparation for their nuptials.

As an extra motivation to shed the pounds, some brides went as far as buying a dress a size too small so they would no choice but to drop a dress size before the big day.

However some lucky brides said the weight dropped off in the run up to the wedding with the stress of organising the occasion.

Once all the fun of the wedding was over, 15% of the brides quizzed admitted to letting go on honeymoon and indulging in fatty and sugary food which they had banned as part of their pre-wedding diet.

The average weight loss achieved by brides-to-be was estimated as 1st 2lbs.

Brides are under immense pressure to look their very best on their wedding day. Often family and friends, some of whom they haven’t seen for years, will be there on the big day so it’s vital they feel good on their special day. Plus there’s the added pressure of the all-important wedding photographs; no bride wants to look back on these and feel that she didn’t look her best.
